Treadmill bound

All I want for Christmas is a treadmill run that does not last for eternity. Santa must have missed that one on my list this year. Man, this morning's run was awful. 7 miles that felt more like 77.

I honestly checked the weather before leaving Boston and there was no signs of snow. So, needless to say, I was just a little surprised by the 18 inches that landed on my parents front lawn Sunday afternoon/night. I guess I should be glad I was here, and staying here for a few more days so I didn't have to travel in these conditions. But blech, as a runner, I do not care for the snow.

First of all, I'm not a big into winter sports - skiing, snowboarding are not my thing - so snow does not help me participate in any activities I enjoy. In fact, it actually prevents me from doing what I'd like to be outdoors for most - running. Second, the alternative to running outside when the roads are sloppy and sidewalks unshovelled is the dreaded treadmill.

Any day I have to run on a treadmill feels like I roll dice before my workout. I can't say every treadmill run is awful. Sometimes it passes quite quickly. Most of the time I painfully watch each 1/100 of a mile tick away.

Ah, but 18 inches aren't going anywhere just yet, so I will try to stay positive for now - happy to be wearing shorts and a t shirt rather than 4 layers of dry fit spandex, excited to listen to the new tunes on my ipod. But, I really just want the snow to melt.

I'm Back!

I don't know why it took me so long to come back to this blog. Following the 2008 Boston Marathon, I trained for the NYC Marathon and injured my hip. The series of doctor's appointments, diagnostic tests and periods of on-and-off running were enough that I should have used writing as an outlet, but perhaps it was just too difficult for me to put it all into words. Or maybe there just weren't many words necessary - basically "It sucked" sums it all up.

But, 7 months post-surgery (the smartest decision of my life, I will add) and I am happy, healthy and ready to write about it all! And I could not be more excited to make my return to my favorite race, the Boston Marathon, on April 18, 2011. I'll be running this year for the Run for the Memory team through the Alzheimer's Association of MA/NH - and looking forward to every minute it takes to get me there.
